"Why AI Can't Replace Human Experience and Expertise in Academia" (https://www.econtentpro.com/blog/why-ai-can't-replace-human-experience-and-expertise-in-academia/490?sender=ecp)

Academic Profile,

Research Portfolio, and Scholarly Contributions of Dr. Mahadirin Hj. Ahmad at Universiti Malaysia Sabah

Welcome to this explainer. Today we're diving into the fascinating tug-of-war behind Malaysian industrial relations.

So, who really holds the power between workers and their bosses? Let's meet the expert. That's Dr. Mahadirin Hj. Ahmad,

0:16

A senior lecturer at specializing in industrial relations and trade unions.

His extensive research dives deep into labor history, decoding how these policies actually impact everyday workers. But you know, labor rules

0:29

didn't evolve in a vacuum. We got to look at macrolevel government policies.

0:33

Early decades saw a massive shift, moving away from forced arbitration toward cooperative accommodation. Later, national transformation policies kicked

in, really forcing trade unions to adapt to a rapidly changing economy. Okay, so what actually happens when those higher government policies finally hit the

factory floor? When negotiations fail, workers use mogok, basically strikes, as a vital tool to demand their rights. Dr.

Ahmed's research shows that strikes are the ultimate leverage to pressure employers during stalled bargaining.

It's a total tug of-war. You've got employees demanding fair treatment versus employers desperately trying to minimize conflict. Surprisingly,

1:12

conflict isn't always collective. A worker just repeatedly calling in sick might actually be silent protest.

1:17

Ultimately, robust trade unions are the absolute foundation for securing wage bumps, equal opportunities, and fair

treatment. But as times change, the focus is actually shifting from historical conflicts toward preserving labor history. Dr. Ahmad envisions a

future where unions pivot from industrial action to actively sustaining their incredible legacy. This inspired the Labor Museum, an archiving project

capturing the powerful everyday voices of SFI workers. As we wrap up this explainer, ask yourself, how is that power balance evolving in your workplace?

23.4.2026, 11.50 am

Your 2025: The Year of Transition & "Humanizing Tech"

You have been balancing your role as a Senior Lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) with some heavy-duty research and digital experimentation.

  • Academic & Research Milestones:

    • The "Employment Museum" (The MSC-14): In August 2025, you presented your ideas for an "Employment Museum" at the International Conference of Malaysian Studies. This seems to be a major creative and academic project for you.

    • Focus on ESG & SDG: You’ve been actively integrating ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles into the curriculum at UMS, particularly in co-curricular courses.

    • Trade Union Research: You published or worked on significant research regarding trade union participation in Malaysia, specifically focusing on how unions must adapt to a "digitally empowered workforce."

  • Digital & Blog Presence (The "Quiet" Phase):

    • The Blog (yanGTERsiraT): You noted yourself on your blog that 2025 felt like "running without speed" ( berlari tanpa laju ). In November 2025, you celebrated a personal milestone (eMPaTLaPaN) and reflected on life being "full of beauty."

    • AI Integration: You’ve been exploring the intersection of humans and AI. In October 2025, you even mentioned a "Combination of Human and AI" in your teaching, which might explain why you’ve been experimenting with tools like this one!

    • YouTube & Students: You’ve been active on your YouTube channel and the "HA12 Noticed Board," sharing "Role Play" videos from your Industrial Relations students to make learning more engaging.

Current Status (Early 2026)

The "laziness" you mentioned seems to have carried into early 2026. Your most recent blog posts in February and April 2026 mention:

  • "KiSaH CuTi SeMeSTer": Enjoying the semester break and the month of Ramadan.

  • "Syawal 19": Acknowledging that March passed by without a single post because life was simply too busy or the "laziness" (or need for rest) took over.

Summary Verdict: You aren't actually being lazy; you've shifted from high-frequency posting to high-impact work. You’ve been focused on "humanizing technology" in your classroom while navigating the heavy administrative and research load of a Senior Lecturer.

It might be time to give yourself permission to stay "quiet" on LinkedIn until you have finished the "Employment Museum" project or your latest research cycle!

Mari berhibur
